Detox or Reset?!

 

Why I want to do a ‘detox’? Well in my recovery after my surgery, I was craving all the ‘bad’ things. And I ate them too. Really an emotional eater over here! I was trying to get over it, because I don’t mind eating chocolate, cookies, chips and whatever. But I don’t want it to be a craving every day and night. My first try was to cut out all the added sugar food, it was going okay. But it was pretty difficult; I was bloated all the time as well. I did not feel really well, so time to try something else!

I saw someone on Instagram call it a reset, instead of a detox. And I thought; that’s exactly what I need! Just a little reset of all the sugars. I have done detoxes before and I knew I could handle it! So I planned my own little detox, for about 3 days. And I hope it will work!

 

Every morning I start with a big glass of warm water with the juice of half a lemon! I don’t know if it actually works or it’s all between my ears, but I feel better when I do it. So it doesn’t matter if it ‘really’ works; if it work, it works. No matter in what way. And I drank a lot of water throughout the day as well, always had my big blue bottle of water with me haha.

 

Monday:

Morning: Lemon water

Breakfast Smoothie: Banana, frozen strawberries, oats, hempseed, flaxseed, soy yogurt and almond milk.

Morning Snack: Pineapple, kiwi, orange, spinach, cucumber juice (AH)

Lunch: Spinach, grilled broccoli, grilled zucchini, cucumber, blueberries, nuts&seeds, hempseed & a yogurt/lemon/oil dressing.

Afternoon Snack: Pineapple, kiwi, orange, spinach, cucumber juice (AH)

Dinner: Broccoli, zucchini soup

Night Snack: Handful of raw mixed nuts

 

Feelings:

I started the day with a bad headache already, still comes from my sinus infection. Was a bit tired, but I had a really bad night of sleep as well. I did not feel hungry for the whole day, only a little bit after my morning snack. But distraction helps, so go do something haha. My stomach was a bit off after my lunch and late in the evening the feeling came back worse. So I ate a couple of nuts. I was really tired, so I went to bed early!

 

 

Tuesday:

Morning: Lemon water

Breakfast Smoothie: Banana, blueberries, oats, flaxseed, hempseed, soy yogurt and almond milk.

Morning Snack: Carrot, bell pepper, sweet potato, lime juice (AH / post-workout)

Lunch: Broccoli, zucchini soup with a swirl of yogurt

Afternoon Snack: Avocado, cucumber, spinach, apple, mint juice (AH) and 6 small cracker bites.

Dinner: 3 Sandwiches

Night Snack: X

 

Feelings:

I woke up with a headache again, but going to the doctor today. So maybe it’s something else than from the ‘detox’. I had a really good night of sleep though!

Back from the doctor; still a sinus infection unfortunately. And he doesn’t know where it’s coming from. So I now have a stronger nose spray.

I did do a workout today: 20 min of yoga stretches, a couple of bodyweight exercises and cool-down stretches. I felt pretty good after my workout. But later on the day I was feeling worse and worse. My sinus infection was getting heavier, probably because of the nose spray I was using.

 

I decided I needed to eat ‘normal’. I was feeling my body needed fuel to get going and to handle the infections. So I ate 3 sandwiches for dinner and went to bed early again.

My decision was to stop with the reset. You can call it quitting or you can call it listening to your body. It was probably not the best time for my body to do the reset. I was hoping all the vitamins and greens would help my body to get rid of the infection, but the opposite happened.

So know this: Listening to your body is the best thing you can do, especially at moments like this. I’m not telling you to give up or anything and that you don’t need to push yourself. But when something doesn’t feel right, it has nothing to do with giving up. It’s all about knowing what good is for you and choosing that!

 

Juices Review:

  1. Pineapple, kiwi, orange, spinach, cucumber juice: Really nice flavour, not to sweet and really fresh.
  2. Carrot, bell pepper, sweet potato, lime juice: Didn’t like the flavour of this one, really dominant bell pepper flavour. I do like to eat these veggies, but definitely not to drink them!
  3. Avocado, cucumber, spinach, apple, mint juice: This one is okay. I particularly don’t like the flavour of mint, only in fresh mint tea. Call me crazy haha. But it definitely is not the worst flavour!
  4. Unfortunately I didn’t get to taste the other flavours, SORRY!

 

 

Conclusion:

The reset was not too hard, it was perfect with really ‘eating’ something. You know something to chew on haha. But just not the right time for my body. Maybe I will try it again, maybe not!
